Our Process

HOW WE FORGE IT

From premium maple billet to finished bat.

Every Caliburn bat follows a hands-on process built
around wood quality, consistency, and performance.
No shortcuts. Just craftsmanship that hitters can feel.

Build Your Bat The Caliburn Difference

Wood Selection

Premium maple chosen for strength, grain and consistency.

Controlled Storage

Stable moisture helps create a more consistent bat.

CNC TURNING

Saved profiles create repeatable geometry.

Hand Finishing

Each bat is refined, sanded and finished by hand.

Final Inspection

Every bat is weighed, checked and approved.

Step

01

Start With The Right Wood

All Caliburn bats are made from prime professional-grade split-hewn billets. This ensures straightness of grain and better material creates a better foundation.

Step

02

Stabilize And Track

Billets are housed in our temperature and humidity-controlled storeroom in order to stabilize moisture content. Each billet is inventoried with weight and date. Stable wood helps produce more predictable weight and feel.

Step

03

Match The Billet To The Bat

When an order comes in, the right billet is selected based on the model, length and intended finished weight. It is inspected for visible flaws and weighed again to confirm.

Step

04

Turn The Profile

Each Caliburn model is saved in our CNC system and turned to precise, repeatable dimensions. The correct model and length are selected, the billet is mounted in the lathe, and the bat is turned. The same profile should feel like the same profile from bat to bat.

Step

05

Sanding

The ends are cut, the bat is sanded and steel pressed. The bat is measured with calipers throughout this process to ensure proper profile dimensions. The bat is then checked once again for visible flaws and re-weighed. This is where machine precision becomes craftsmanship.

Step

06

Finishing

Finish, branding and engraving are applied before another inspection. The details matter just as much as the profile.

Step

07

INSPECT AND APPROVE

Every finished bat is weighed, inspected and checked before it leaves the shop. A bat does not leave Caliburn until we’re comfortable putting our name on it.
